Chase Kalisz: Arena Pro Mesa, Day Three Finals
Chase Kalisz had himself a meet in Mesa at the arena Pro Swim Series. After an impressive 4:11.01 in the 400m IM Friday, Kalisz popped off two lifetime best times on Sunday -- which is very uncommon for a world-class swimmer like Chase, especially at a meet in April.
Kalisz kicked off the session Saturday night with a 1:55.82 in the 200m butterfly, cracking the world top 10 this year and handily defeating second place Tom Shields (1:59.09) who made the Olympic team in this event in 2016.
Kalisz followed up that performance in the 200m IM with a 1:57.71 -- the fifth-fastest performance in the world in 2017.
For someone who has been a one-trick pony on the international level, Kalisz just proved he has more tricks up his sleeve and will certainly be a threat to qualify for Worlds in these events. Take a listen to what he had to say about his races afterwards.
