Simone Manuel Breaks Pool Record

The 2016 Olympic gold medalist has been on a tear in the last year. In Friday morning's prelims of the 100m freestyle, ​Simone Manuel​ dusted the field to take the top spot by almost a full second in 53.75 -- breaking her own pool record of 54.11 from 2016. That's right on pace with the 53.66 she swam in Mesa, and if she can dip into the 53.3 range tonight, she will put herself in the world top five this year.​

Park Tae Hwan Snags FINA 'A' Time

The South Korean superstar is on a mission in Atlanta. Using this as a qualification for the World Championships this summer, ​Park Tae Hwan ​dropped a 48.62 in the 100m freestyle in prelims Friday morning, dipping below the FINA "A" qualifying time standard of 48.93. Park is definitely more of a mid-distance specialist, so if he can put up a solid 48 mid in the 100, that is good news for his 200 and 400 later on in the meet.​

Katie Ledecky Cruises to 4:02

The G.O.A.T. claimed the top seed in the 400m freestyle with a 4:02.41 -- eight seconds ahead of second seed ​Hali Flickinger ​in 4:10.66. ​Katie Ledecky​ now holds the three fastest times in the world this year. Casual.​
